Life Purpose – How do I find mine?

Here’s a favorite quote I’d like to share:

I cannot believe that the purpose of life is to be happy.  I think the purpose of life is to be useful, to be responsible, to be compassionate.  It is above all to matter, to count, to stand for something, to have made some difference that you have lived at all.        –Leo Rosten

OK, so instead of being happy, or at ease, or feeling accomplished,  the question becomes, “What do I want to be about and how do I live in this moment to best embody that?”  It won’t be ‘easy’ very often, and many times it won’t be crystal clear, but it is something to work towards, one moment at a time.

It is not so much what I say is important to me, but what I do on a consistent basis.

So, I know that I want to continue to live mindfully, consciously, making choices and doing what matters most.   I also know that difficulties, frustrations, and roadblocks will come up.  So, how I choose to face these challenges may have a huge impact on where my life goes.  Do I give up?  Do I grin and bear it?  Or, do I stay mindfully aware, and still choose to push through the difficult moments?

I can’t say that I am pleased with the choice to have difficulty, but I can say that I choose to ‘be here’ and to continue to move forward, one small step at a time.

Sure, I’d love to have a big button that says, < EASY >, but since I don’t, I will just keep showing up, and keep doing what I believe needs to be done, and if I stop having the expectation that it should be “easy”, then I may have less struggle and irritation.
